Snow Walk
At 3:27am, I froze at the sound. I shook Darrel awake whispering, “What’s that noise?” He sleepily (and grumpily) said, “I don’t hear anything.” Darrel then rolled over taking all of the covers with him. I peeped out of the bedroom window. To my delight, I saw that snow dusted everything. The street plows were already busy clearing the roads. They were making the racket that had awakened me. A winter wonderland awaited and I immediately wanted to take a walk. It was much too dark and I knew our furry friends would be lurking about so I laid back down, listened to music and waited.
My walk was delightful. For one brief moment, I was caught up in a miniature polar vortex. The wind and snow whipped about me and I squealed with glee. There were animal tracks of all kinds in the yard. I followed a set that ended at our property line then went in two different directions around our neighbor’s house. I was determined to track the critters down. Before long, I saw a fox moving about at the creek. I raised my camera and focused on him. At that precise moment, he looked up and spotted me watching. I could see through my lens how big, red and fluffy he was. Then it happened. He took off running, towards me. In an instant, I took off running towards the house. Y’all can just imagine how loud I was hollering for Darrel. The front door opened and I got in the house just in the nick of time. Of course, when Darrel looked behind me there was nothing to be seen. Baby brother Ray came downstairs wanting to know what all the commotion was. He asked to see a picture of the fox and laughingly said the fox probably ran in the opposite direction. Dag-nab-it the picture I took of the fox was blurry! I am convinced the fox ran towards me but I have no proof. Truthfully, I did not stand there long enough to find out. Would you?
I am sharing a few of the pictures that I took on my lovely walk in the snow. In the last one if you squint hard enough, you just might see through the blur the fox chasing after me. 😉
Happy Snow Day,
Amanda
